Hamburg Chow Mein Casserole

Ingredients
  • 1 Lb. hamburg (ground beef)

  • 1 large stalk of celery, chopped (about 3/4 cup)

  • 3/4 cup chopped onion

  • 1 1/4 cups of boiling water

  • 1/2 cup uncooked Uncle Ben's Converted Rice

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1 10 1/2 oz. can of condensed chicken and rice soup

  • 1 4 oz. can of mushroom pieces

  • 1 tbsp. of brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp. butter or margarine

  • 1 1/2 cups of chow mein noodles

Cook hamburg, onion, and celery in a skillet untill there is no trace of pink, then drain off excess fat. Pour boiling water on rice and salt in a greased 2 quart casserole dish. Stir in hamburg mixture as well as the rest of the ingredients except for the noodles.

Cover and cook in a 350° oven for 30 minutes, stir.

Cook uncovered for another 30 minutes. Stir in noodles and serve.
